| Mass Casualties Utility (MCU) Trailer |
|
The Mass Casualties Utility Trailer serves as a portable emergency triage site. Triage (n): A process for sorting injured people into groups based on their need for or likely benefit from immediate medical treatment.
Serving Boundary County Idaho, the trailer was obtained in a grant to provide enough emergency supplies for 25 or more people. The MCU is serviced by Boundary Volunteer Ambulance and is parked behind the Sheriff's office, where it is immediately available for towing by the BVA extrication truck.
With the exception of sterile drapes, there are no surgical supplies on the trailer. Rather, this portable triage center is stocked with
a large tent
Oxygen, with Nasal Canulas and non-rebreather masks
backboards
IV kits
bandaging supplies (non-sterile)
4 large totes of sterile dressings/drapes
4 carry cots
wood leg splints
emergency blankets
emergency lights
In addition, the Trailer contains a generator for powering emergency lights. Access to the unit is through a side door and two back doors that fold down into a ramp. Note that there are no small tents, sleeping bags, stoves or cooking facilities. This unit serves as an emergency triage center only, designed for rapid deployment and triage determination. It is NOT a camping facility. [Italics inserted by this Editor.] |
